Zero Emission & CO2 Tracking
EDD Included
Sustainability is no longer a niche concern — it is a mainstream purchasing criterion. A 2024 survey by NielsenIQ found that 73% of global consumers say they would definitely or probably change their consumption habits to reduce environmental impact. For WooCommerce store owners, this creates a clear opportunity: offer an eco-delivery option at checkout and convert environmental values into revenue, customer loyalty, and brand differentiation.
ShippingGuard’s Zero Emission Eco-Delivery module adds a customer opt-in carbon-offset shipping option to your WooCommerce checkout. Customers pay a small additional fee to make their delivery eco-friendly — and your ShippingGuard dashboard tracks the cumulative CO2 reduction across all eco orders, giving you concrete numbers to use in sustainability marketing. Combined with ShippingGuard’s Estimated Delivery Dates (EDD) module, this creates a checkout experience that reduces support tickets and increases buyer confidence — completing a premium woocommerce shipping experience that competitors simply don’t offer.
The Business Case for Zero Emission Delivery
Adding a green delivery option to your WooCommerce checkout creates multiple business benefits beyond the environmental impact:
- Revenue: The eco fee (typically $0.50 – $2.00 per order) is pure additional revenue on orders where customers opt in
- Brand positioning: Publicly committing to carbon-offset shipping differentiates your store from competitors
- Customer segment: Eco-conscious shoppers represent a growing, high-LTV customer segment who actively seek out brands aligning with their values
- Marketing content: Your Green Analytics CO2 reduction total is a compelling marketing number (“We’ve offset 1,200 kg of CO2 for our customers this year”)
- Employee morale: Many teams report higher satisfaction working for companies with visible sustainability commitments
How the Eco-Delivery Widget Works
Similar to the Shipping Protection module, the Eco-Delivery module adds an opt-in card at checkout. Customers see a clean eco-delivery option with a leaf icon and your configured eco messaging. The toggle is driven by a session variable (shippingguard_eco_enabled) updated via AJAX — toggling updates the cart total in real time without page refresh.
When a customer places an eco order, the eco fee is added as a WooCommerce order fee and the order is tagged in the database for CO2 analytics tracking.
Green Analytics Dashboard
The ShippingGuard Green Analytics dashboard (accessed under ShippingGuard admin menu → Analytics) tracks your store’s cumulative environmental impact from eco-delivery orders:
- Total CO2 Reduction: Cumulative kg/lbs of CO2 offset across all eco orders
- Eco Order Count: Total number of orders with eco-delivery selected
- Eco Revenue: Total eco fees collected
- Timeline View: Track eco delivery adoption over time to measure the impact of eco-delivery promotions
These analytics are powered by ShippingGuard’s analytics REST API (/shippingguard/v1/analytics) which queries the orders database and aggregates eco metrics in real-time.
Per-Product Eco-Delivery Exclusion
For products where eco-delivery doesn’t make sense — for example, products that already use a non-negotiable carbon-intensive carrier due to hazmat requirements, or digital services — ShippingGuard lets you disable eco-delivery on a per-product basis. When any cart item has eco-delivery disabled (_shippingguard_disable_eco product meta), the eco-delivery option is automatically hidden from the entire checkout.
Estimated Delivery Dates (EDD): Reduce “Where Is My Order?” Tickets
The single most common WooCommerce customer support ticket is “Where is my order?” — a question that exists because the store failed to communicate a concrete delivery expectation at the time of purchase. By the time the customer is emailing, they’ve already formed a negative impression of the experience.
ShippingGuard’s Estimated Delivery Dates module eliminates this by displaying clear “Arrives by” date ranges in two locations:
1. Single Product Page
Display the estimated delivery window directly on the product page via the woocommerce_single_product_summary action hook — calculated from today’s date plus your configured processing and transit times. Customers see the expectation before they even add to cart, reducing purchase hesitation for time-sensitive buyers.
2. Checkout Page
Display the estimated delivery date range in the checkout order review section. At the point of purchase confirmation, the customer sees exactly when to expect their parcel — reinforcing a positive delivery experience and pre-answering the “When will it arrive?” question.
Customer Delivery Date Selection
Beyond display-only EDD, ShippingGuard also supports a Preferred Delivery Date Picker at checkout. Customers select their preferred delivery date from a calendar picker before placing the order. The selected date is:
- Validated server-side during checkout processing to ensure it falls within acceptable delivery windows
- Saved to the WooCommerce order meta (
_shippingguard_delivery_date) - Displayed in the WooCommerce order admin view alongside the shipping address information
This feature is particularly valuable for:
- Gift purchases where delivery timing is critical
- Subscription boxes and seasonal products
- B2B stores where delivery scheduling is part of the procurement process
Express Priority Service Levels
ShippingGuard Pro adds express and standard service levels as distinct WooCommerce shipping method options at checkout:
📦 Standard Delivery
A configurable base fee for standard shipping speed. Customers choosing standard pay only this rate.
⚡ Express Delivery
Standard fee + configurable express surcharge. Express rate scales with standard — as weight increases, express remains proportionally priced.
The express surcharge is designed with “Standard + Add-on” logic: Express Rate = Standard Fee + Express Surcharge. This ensures that as weight-based standard rates scale up, express remains a consistent premium above standard — preventing express from being artificially cheap on heavy orders or expensive on light ones.
