Not every upsell opportunity in WooCommerce is a product-to-product bundle. Sometimes the value is in letting customers customize what they’re buying — adding an extended warranty, selecting a personalization, choosing an installation service, or including a gift wrapping option. These are product add-ons: optional or required extras that attach to a product and modify its price, rather than being standalone products in their own right.
BundlePress Pro’s Product Add-ons bundle type (also called Composite Products) brings this capability to WooCommerce — allowing store owners to configure optional and mandatory product add-ons with custom input types (checkboxes, radio buttons, dropdowns) and price modifiers. This is the WooCommerce bundle equivalent of “would you like to add…?” — surfaced prominently on the product page rather than buried in an email follow-up.
What Are Product Add-ons & Composite Bundles?
Product Add-ons in BundlePress are secondary products, services, or options that can be attached to a primary WooCommerce product. Each add-on:
- Has a name and description visible to the customer
- Uses a specific input type (checkbox, radio button, or dropdown)
- Has its own price or price modifier (added to the base product price)
- Can be optional (customer can skip it) or mandatory (customer must select one)
When a customer adds the product to the cart with add-ons selected, the add-on prices are reflected in the cart and order total. The add-ons appear as part of the order record so fulfillment knows what was selected.
Add-ons vs Fixed Bundle: Fixed bundles add separate products to the cart. Product Add-ons modify the main product’s purchase options and price — they represent customization and service options rather than separate physical products. Both can increase order value, but through different mechanisms.
Add-on Input Types Available in BundlePress
☑ Checkbox
Single on/off option. Customer checks to add this option to their purchase.

◉ Radio Buttons
Single selection from multiple options. Customer picks one from a list of mutually exclusive add-ons.
Example: Warranty tier — 1yr / 2yr / 3yr
▼ Dropdown
Select from a dropdown list. Compact UI for many options or when the add-on has many choices.
Example: Installation service location
How to Create a Product Add-ons Bundle in WooCommerce
Step 1: Select Product Add-ons Bundle Type
Navigate to BundlePress → Create New Bundle. Select Product Add-ons (Composite Products) as the bundle type. Name the bundle or the add-on group.
Step 2: Choose the Input Type
Select the input type that best fits how this add-on should be presented:
- Checkbox: For a single yes/no option (e.g., “Add gift wrapping”)
- Radio: For selecting one from multiple mutually exclusive options (e.g., “Choose warranty tier”)
- Dropdown: For a clean, compact selection when there are many options (e.g., “Select installation region”)
Step 3: Add Add-on Products / Options
For each add-on option, configure:
- Option name: What the customer sees (e.g., “1-Year Extended Warranty”)
- Price modifier: How much this option adds to the product price (e.g., +$15)
- Description: Optional description explaining what this add-on provides
You can add multiple add-on groups to a single product — for example, one group for “Warranty Options” and another for “Installation Services.” Each group has its own input type and options.
Step 4: Set Mandatory or Optional
Configure whether this add-on group is:
- Optional: Customer can skip the add-on (ideal for upsells and extras that are genuinely optional)
- Required: Customer must make a selection before adding to cart (useful for mandatory configuration options like color, service level, or installation choice)
Step 5: Assign to Product Page & Save
Assign the Product Add-ons bundle to the relevant product page. The add-on options display within the product page form — before the Add to Cart button — so customers configure their purchase completely before adding to cart. Save and the add-ons go live immediately.
Add-on Pricing & Price Modifiers
Each add-on option has its own price modifier. When a customer selects an add-on, the product price updates dynamically to reflect the total:
- Fixed addition: Add-on adds a fixed dollar amount to the product price (+$10, +$25, +$50)
- Percentage addition: Add-on adds a percentage of the product price (e.g., +10% for extended warranty)
- No additional charge: Add-on has no price impact — used for free configuration options or when the add-on is already included
The price shown on the product page updates in real-time as customers select different add-on options. The cart and order total correctly reflect all selected add-on prices. Currency formatting respects WooCommerce store settings, including localized decimal and thousand separators.
Mandatory vs Optional Add-ons
The mandatory/optional setting fundamentally changes how the add-on functions:
Optional Add-ons (Upsell)
Customer can choose to include or skip. Best for upsell opportunities — extended warranties, gift wrapping, premium packaging, extra accessories. Presented as helpful extras, not requirements.
Mandatory Add-ons (Configuration)
Customer must make a selection. Best for required configuration options — engraving text, installation type, service level. The Add to Cart button is blocked until a selection is made, preventing incomplete orders.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do Product Add-ons appear as separate line items in WooCommerce orders?
Add-on selections and their prices are recorded in the WooCommerce order metadata and visible in the order detail view in the admin. Fulfillment teams can see exactly which add-ons were selected for each order. The specific display depends on the WooCommerce theme and configuration, but the data is always present in the order record.
Can I use Product Add-ons together with other bundle types on the same product?
Yes. Multiple bundle types can potentially be assigned to the same product page. A product could have a Fixed Bundle widget showing a curated kit, a Frequently Bought Together widget showing complementary products, and Product Add-ons for warranty and gift wrapping options — all on the same product page. The display order and positioning is determined by the BundlePress bundle configuration and your theme’s product page layout.
